When i received salvation eight years ago, i was not discipled. I received discipleship mid last year. This opened my mind further to all the possibilities am entitled to as a child of God.

When a baby is born, its just an infant and cannot do anything by itself. Therefore they have to depend entirely upon their caregiver. As months pass by, they learn to do a few things, especially express their views, by screaming at this stage. I would equate this to being born again. As a baby christian, you need some moulding in your life. You also must play a big part towards maturity by getting into the word which will accelerate your growth. This will enlighten you of your place in Christ.

He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure. Isaiah 33:6

For some reason unfortunately, many of us christians leave the responsibility of our growth to our pastors, teachers or priests. Worse, we still remain in the ignorance of seeking direction from people.  Just as we expect our children to talk to us about every aspect of their lives, especially in teenage hood instead of learning from peers, most of which leads them into trouble. I believe God expects us to confide in Him, seek His lead in each and everything in our lives. And He expects us to mature in christianity with passing time, not forever depending on others for every little thing. Can you imagine how frustrating it can be to have a child of fifteen years of age behaving like a two year old toddler? Must be so taxing to care for them because they cannot even express themselves without screaming.

The same way i imagine God wonders when you have known Him as your personal savior yet five years down the line you are as raw as you were the day you accepted Him. Seeking an intimate relationship with Christ is for your own benefit, so you do not need to be pushed or reminded by anyone.

With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. Proverbs 8:18

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33

Purpose to grow in Christ and you will be amazed at His goodness!

Father God, give me the humility to learn your word and nurture an intimate relationship with you. For this is my innermost desire.

The Big Picture

Last Sunday i attended a gospel concert celebrating one of the greatest gospel singers we  Have in Kenya, Reuben Kagame. Three of my favourite singers were performing too, so to say i had a great afternoon and evening would be an understatement. But interestingly, the revelation i got from that event is one i didn’t anticipate.

My husband has explained to me numerous times about how we are all connected in the same big picture, God’s big picture but it completely eluded me of understanding.

As the hosting church choir took to the podium, the master of ceremony urged us, the audience to welcome them with enthusiasm. I then noticed a lady playing the tambourine standing on the floor almost in the audience. I doubt many people noticed her because she was in a place you would have to strain to see her, thankfully i was sitting not far from her. I then wondered if her tambourine was of any effect to the music, so i closed my eyes and could hear what it was adding to the sound of the music, and i liked it very much. She needed to play them in such a way that they flow with the particular song.

Then i got the understanding. Each one of us has their part in God’s big picture! And i believe in His eyes no part is greater than the other because they are all needed to complete the picture. The singers could not sing without the pianist or guitarist for instance. If they did, the sound would not come out as desired. The performers could not perform without us the audience, it would be such a boring event.

In short, each and everyone of us have their specific role in the Kingdom of God. We are all important and needed to play our role otherwise the music will not sound as it should.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, Colossians 3:23

Whether you are a housewife or a director of a company, you are a driver or a doctor, we should all serve in excellence for we are honouring God through our good service to His people. Always serve the best way you can. For His spotlight is on you!

Please let us love each other as God loved us, let us appreciate each other. Let us play our role and not envy the other’s role, let us encourage each other and cheer each other us we each play our God given role. To Him the roles are equal and He has given us sufficient grace for our part as long as we are in our rightful part.

Doesn’t matter whether you are visible or not in your role. The one who has the register notices you all the time! And we are ideally working for Him!

Father God, may you enable me to focus on my role and play it as best as i can through Jesus who is my strength!

Guard Your Heart

Last tuesday i was honoured to speak to women in Langata Women’s prison on the auspicious international women’s day. It was the most humbling appointment i have had since i embarked on speaking to women. The first reason being that the Lord Himself appointed me.  Before i left my house in the morning, He gave me proverbs 4:23 as the verse i was to share with them.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Proverbs 4:23

When i got there, He confirmed through the first song that was played, it was those same words in Swahili. As these women, some no older than sixteen years of age entertained us, i could not help but wonder what they could possibly have done to deserve time behind bars. Because they are all beautiful and full of life. I realized why the Lord had instructed me to share the above verse. Not just for them but more so for myself. Every action you take stems from your heart. If you don’t protect your heart from the world you become extremely vulnerable and an easy prey to the devil.

Something as little as an argument over much salt in food may cause divorce. Something as little as disagreeing with a friend can cause death. We have people who push others in trouble, you have a small disagreement and they tell you, you are nice, if i was the one, they would have known who i am. You discover your spouse is having an affair and without thinking twice, you decide to discipline your rival or them. You may think you are just going to fight or beat them depending on how strong you are, but they may fight back and it could end in death.

And so as i looked at even very young girls condemned to life in prison, i could not help but wonder, behind that facade of a smile for our sake, how many hours do they spend weeping at night, wishing that if only, if only they could go back in time, could they take the action they took?

Was it worth it committing that murder? Was it worthy throwing acid onto that other woman’s face? Was it worthy poisoning that man who cheated on them or killing his lover? As you go about life, protect your heart from pain as much as you can, of course when you let God do it for you, it will be easy for His grace is sufficient. When you are getting stressed because of difficulties such as finances and other issues, please just stop and remind yourself that you are free and thank God for it! You have no idea what the cost of freedom is…. Priceless.

Father God, keep reminding me to be thankful for life and freedom regardless of the obstacles i may face in life. Being free enables me to seek Your counsel peacefully.

Do Right

Yesterday i had a very interesting experience that normally i would have been very upset from but instead i was left laughing about it and at myself. I was in the CBD until four thirty in the evening. We all know how frustrating the peak hour jam can be. More so for us who live twenty kilometers or more in the outskirts. I rushed to get onto a matatu, and i knowingly decided to board one of the notorious ones for overlapping.

Naturally of course its really annoying when they overlap while you are driving as well. Being their passenger now and wishing to be home without dosing off in the ever so slow moving jam, i consciously made this decision. And without disappointing me, when we got to the jam, the driver sped off on the oncoming traffic lane. We did that for just over a kilometer, and i was happily and shamelessly enjoying the fast ride home.

Suddenly we came to a sudden halt!

The driver was barely five meters from a police officer on a motor bike as we went uphill. Turns out he was a no nonsense officer. He simply signaled to our driver to return where he came from. He obeyed. It was a long ride back towards town, thereafter taking one of the alternative route’s which isn’t paved yet. One i had never been on before.

Needless to say, i got home about one and a half hours later, exhausted from the craters on the road and covered in dust. How could i complain? I laughed, for i believe it was a lesson from God. Am supposed to uphold right, yet out of my selfishness i deliberately chose this matatu knowing full well they would break the rules just so i could get home sooner, according to my own schedule.

This is wrong because if i don’t support the overlapping when am not in the matatu, why should i be happy to be inside an overlapping matatu? I didn’t have to wait to reap my wrong intentions sowed..

Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:8-9

Father God, may You give me the wisdom to do what is right in everything i do. Enable me to always sow the right seed no matter the situation.
