Yesterday i had a very interesting experience that normally i would have been very upset from but instead i was left laughing about it and at myself. I was in the CBD until four thirty in the evening. We all know how frustrating the peak hour jam can be. More so for us who live twenty kilometers or more in the outskirts. I rushed to get onto a matatu, and i knowingly decided to board one of the notorious ones for overlapping.
Naturally of course its really annoying when they overlap while you are driving as well. Being their passenger now and wishing to be home without dosing off in the ever so slow moving jam, i consciously made this decision. And without disappointing me, when we got to the jam, the driver sped off on the oncoming traffic lane. We did that for just over a kilometer, and i was happily and shamelessly enjoying the fast ride home.
Suddenly we came to a sudden halt!
The driver was barely five meters from a police officer on a motor bike as we went uphill. Turns out he was a no nonsense officer. He simply signaled to our driver to return where he came from. He obeyed. It was a long ride back towards town, thereafter taking one of the alternative route’s which isn’t paved yet. One i had never been on before.
Needless to say, i got home about one and a half hours later, exhausted from the craters on the road and covered in dust. How could i complain? I laughed, for i believe it was a lesson from God. Am supposed to uphold right, yet out of my selfishness i deliberately chose this matatu knowing full well they would break the rules just so i could get home sooner, according to my own schedule.
This is wrong because if i don’t support the overlapping when am not in the matatu, why should i be happy to be inside an overlapping matatu? I didn’t have to wait to reap my wrong intentions sowed..
Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Father God, may You give me the wisdom to do what is right in everything i do. Enable me to always sow the right seed no matter the situation.
