Endurance

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. Hebrews 10:36

The olympics have just ended. As usual our Kenyan athletes made us proud by clenching medals and prompting our National anthem to be sang over and over. We are only congratulating the winners right now.

We tend to ignore those that did not step on the podium. Not just in such races but in families, the children who do not get ‘good’ grades according to the set standards do not receive any applause. Everywhere we only acknowledge winners.

We are now ogling the winner’s bounty counting in the millions. Have we imagined the work they put into practice? or shall i say am now admiring….

Endurance is not an easy thing to do. Just the word gives me a picture in my mind of a runner doing a marathon, soaked in sweat, barely getting the oxygen they need for their body to keep going.  But endurance is not only needed for a long jog. It is a necessity in your spiritual walk as well. Your capacity to endure through the storms and trials of life will have an effect on your ability to reach your God given destiny. You may not need to sweat physically, but you may need to “sweat” spiritually!

We all have our God given races, in which if we endure in Him we are guaranteed to reap abundantly. Problem is majority of us are on the wrong track either through ignorance, due to public opinion or greed.. We want instant! In the book of Luke 12:47-48 it is clearly written that; “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

This scripture is very clear. In another version it says they will be severely punished, in another, they will be given many lashes. Well, i have experienced a few blows when i insisted on doing what was not in His will for me. I pray that am not caught in the same situation again. Note that even if you do not know His will for you, you will not be pardoned, instead you will receive few blows. When we are deceived through false gospel, we have no excuse because we all have access to the Lord and His Word which is the ultimate truth.

Today, you can choose to enquire of your race and proactively develop and maintain the spiritual muscle of endurance in your life. When you do that, you will be prepared for the inevitable obstacles and hurdles life brings, overcoming through the power of Jesus Christ and expectant of the reward when you complete your race in Him. Every race has a reward from Him. If you run your designated race, you will win!

Stop chasing after  instant reaping from ‘sowing seed’ and just endure like the athletes and in due time you shall reap what you sowed!

Father God, enable me to endure in my designated race in the name of Jesus.

The Week That was

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

I made an intentional decision to trust and obey the Lord last week no matter what. I obeyed when He instructed me to travel home despite the fact that i was not financially ‘fit’.

I trusted Him when i overloaded my car with stuff i needed to take home even as the people assisting me to pack disapproved and doubted i would get home without a tyre burst.

I trusted Him despite having lost my jack at the mechanics and undertaking the ‘risky’ weight on. Got home without a problem.

I trusted Him when i chose to take a shortcut route to my home though i had never used it, knowing too well that the rains had pounded with a vengeance. I ignored the risk of a possibly impassable muddy road. He got me home safely.

I trusted Him when a daughter asked us to pray for her friend in hospital. She lost the battle but won in Him. Trusting Him, i know she is with Him.

I trusted Him knowing well that the guys working on my cabin would not be happy that i was not paying them before my departure. They did not raise a single complaint.

As we embarked on our return journey, i trusted Him when the car broke down, weightless now. He enabled us to keep it safely and get into a shuttle.

When we got into a standstill jam for exactly one hour, i trusted Him still. Eventually He ensured our safe arrival in Nairobi.

I learned once again that, He always has my back in whatever circumstance, good or bad. Actually all i need to do each hour of the day is to entrust myself and my plans with Him. He sorts everything out, perfectly! We may worry, have doubts, get hurt, but He always is with us and doing what is best for us.

Father, enable me to continue trusting You no matter what! Because i need You every hour Lord.
